Day Three!

A few days ago I made a few of these for the game.  Just a test character.  Just wanted to get an idea of how pixel art really worked.  Nothing too amazing since none of this may actually be used.  The only really relevant one is the 5th one as it is the direction our Design team likes most.  So I'm off to make a walk animation for it today.  At least an attempt.  I'm hoping that this will turn out nicely!

Day Two!

Day Two!

Eventually I will have to come up with a different way to go with my titles.  This whole blogging thing is really new to me.  I got this guys.  Trust me on this one.

So far we had a small meeting discussing story.  Unfortunately I can't really go over the details as its still under works.  That and the small thing of not knowing what is confidential and what isn't.  Not that I think anyone would steal from us or anything...but better safe then sorry right?

On the art side I'm creating different styles of a character and finding out which I prefer most.  I'm taking a more pixel approach right now with raster images.  I'm tempted to go into the vector area with flash.  Only thing with that is that I've never really found myself to be attracted how smooth that looks.  So for now I'm aiming more retro yo!  It's my hope to post up images in not too long.  That's actually something I look forward to.  I've never found myself to be the type that really displays everything I do.  But perhaps with a blog it will stick.  Never know right?  Huzzah for content!  Speaking of which eventually I'll have tabs for more topics...This blog so far is pretty sparse...gimme a bit though and we shall see some new things...Trust me on this!

So what else do I do during the day?  Well I drink a lot of soda right now.  Pepsi and Mountain dew throwbacks.  I kinda gotta stop this actually.  My teeth will only hold out so long.  Currently this is my crack though since Costco stopped selling Chai Tea in bulk.  mmmmm Chai....I really could use a cup.  Sadly though it costs twice as much to bulk up on the stuff off of regular stores which really bums me out.  It's pretty sad.  It makes me pretty sad.  Hopefully there will be a return to Costco soon and I can buy a year supply.  YUM!

Besides all that there is a lot of sitting, petting the dog, lots of pixel work and studying.  I also work on another game called "Citadel of Sorcery".  Look it up!  It's really exciting to be a part of that team.  I do a ton of 3D modeling and texturing for that team. But more on them another time.

Anyways we are rolling along and will continue to pick up speed.  Woot!

Day One!

So this is day one of my blog for our game.  I've actually never kept one of these but it sounded like a fun idea!  Thus I will be updating this a few times a week with all kinds of garble and fascinating information!

The entire process so far has been surreal and both fun and full of problem solving already.  There have been a number of portfolios to review.  All of them have some good work, but no one has really blown me away yet.  One should always include the best work they have and just show they have a really good understanding of any medium they are demonstrating.  I'm going to have to update my own site one day hahah.  But I really do have high expectations from anyone I work with.

Testing so far hasn't seen many results just yet.  At the moment we are going towards a more sprite/pixel character type look.  Thus our test reflects the need for individuals who can do that.  Overall its still new and will be refined as time goes by.  I'm taking it myself right now to make sure I hold up right.  If that goes well, I may add more!

Style-wise the game is heading towards a sprite look.  We've talked about using 3D for this.  It isn't panning out however.  However some techniques for 3D may still be used as development continues forward.  Its just another tool in the arsenal that can be implemented where it is needed.

We'll see how this goes.  Things are moving along faster then originally expected!

As for today I will be working on several angles for a character.  After that I'll be working on a few models.  Should be a lot of fun.  Nothing all that much to more to say then that.
